This critically endangered subspecies of the widespread white-fronted capuchin is found only on the island of Trinidad. There are four wildlife sanctuaries on Trinidad in which this monkey is likely to occur, but its presence thus far has been documented in only two: Bush Bush and Trinity Hills. Surveys in the Central Range Sanctuary have not located any resident groups. Apparently, the fastest growing villages on the island are located along the borders of these sanctuaries, and agricultural encroachment and erosion are serious problems. Even within the protected areas, these monkeys remain threatened by hunting, and the entire island population is vulnerable to habitat damage and loss due to seasonal hurricanes.
